Tea Profile

Just Jasmine is a type of scented tea. To make scented ceylon tea, ceylon tea leaves are mixed with flowers until their perfume has been absorbed. The tea is then baked gently in an oven. Jasmine teas have a naturally calming and relaxing effect on mind and body.

Origin

Sri Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon is renowned for mainly black, or fully oxidized teas. While Sri Lanka exports only about a hundredth of the quantity of black tea exported the same year, the reputation for quality enjoyed by Ceylon Tea has quickly come to be shared by the green tea. Roleaf’s Black Tea is sourced from Nuwara Eliya, the best-known of Sri Lanka’s tea-growing districts. It is the most mountainous, and has the highest average elevation. Combined with low temperature, this region produces very exquisite teas. The island nation of Sri Lanka is small, but she benefits from a perfect geography with an enviable microclimate that produces a complex set of temperature, moisture and wind, so the flavours and character of the teas produced vary greatly.

Roleaf Just Jasmine is a blend of Ceylon green tea with jasmine petals and buds harvested from the mostly mountainous region of Fujian, located on the southeast coast of mainland China. The subtropical, mild and humid climate provides the perfect environment for growing jasmine plants. Jasmine tea was one of the earliest flavored teas to be exported to the west in the 1800s, and its fine flavor has been much sought after since then. Jasmine is planted in other countries, but China is still seen as the best producer of Jasmine tea. Chinese tea growers are only able to harvest this prized tea during the summer months when the jasmine fields are in bloom. The buds are handpicked during the day when they are closed. At night, when the flowers bloom, it can then be used to scent tea leaves. This creates the unique flavor and distinctive aroma of the tea.
